UNCG Online at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro is seeking a highly-motivated candidate to ensure online courses or courses with online components are compliant with University, state, and federal policies, such as ADA, Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and WCAG 2.0. The candidate will partner with all units on campus responsible for teaching online classes to ensure each course being taught is in compliance, partner with all units on campus responsible for teaching online classes to promote awareness and educate administrative staff on current and emerging online accessibility design and provision issues, and to help faculty create and maintain fully accessible online courses. The candidate will also: assemble a working group of UNCG faculty and staff (ITC, faculty, OARS, library, etc) to discuss and develop compliant online accessibility design and provision resources and news; present and participate in university based, regional and national conferences and workshops on issues related to accessibility in online higher education courses; serve as a point of contact for accessibility and provisioning questions regarding online courses, courses with online components; develop and maintain online resource for accessibility and usability content dealing with online courses and courses with online components; develop, maintain, and disseminate a course accessibility checklist (with a working definition of what it means to be compliant for online classes) to be used by faculty and staff during course development and review; and partner with other university entities, e.g. Office of Accessibility Resources & Services, Office of General Counsel, UNCG Online, colleges, schools, etc., to recommend and develop appropriate regulations, guidelines, procedures, and best practices that ensure the accessibility of online courses and course components Required skills include extensive knowledge and experience with state and federal accessibility requirements along with disability law as applies to higher education; extensive knowledge and experience with resources that meet accessibility requirements and/or how to enable resources to meet such requirements; demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and negotiation skills; commitment to accessibility issues required; effective verbal and written communication skills; and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations in a higher education setting. Preferably, the candidate will have knowledge and experience with accessible Web design, principles of Universal Design and understanding of accessibility issues related to emerging web technologies, multimedia and learning environments; knowledge and experience with assistive technologies (e.g. screen readers, speech input devices, and text readers); experience with HTML/XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, XML and web content management systems; experience reviewing and remediating online courses and/or websites to ensure accessibility and usability compliance; experience organizing and managing professional development workshops; and experience teaching online or hybrid courses, and/or supporting online or hybrid instructors and students. Master's degree required. Applicant must be available to work on campus at UNCG and not remotely. Salary range is $52,000 to $75,000.
