Caktus has grown sharp web and SMS applications for business,
higher education, and social good since 2007. Our award-winning,
Agile teams focus on developing for impact and scalability. We
specialize in custom Django apps, but also offer discovery
workshops, best practices consulting (project management, QA,
Agile), and team augmentation. As a full-service shop, Caktus
commits to maintaining each project with managed hosting and
ongoing Django upgrades. Past and current clients include Mozilla,
UChicago, PBS, Discovery Communications and others in media,
travel, education, finance, and health research.
Caktus is looking for a Chief Business Development Officer to
join our growing sales and marketing team in Durham, NC and support
future growth of the company. Reporting to the CEO, this position
includes management of a growing and high-performing sales and
marketing team as well as direct conversations with potential
customers to define requirements and win six-figure-plus custom
software contracts. The position requires an in-depth understanding
of the intricacies of custom web development. This is an on-site

-Lead the creation of a comprehensive business development
plan, with an emphasis on anchor account strategy that targets
global corporations and nonprofits to win six-figure-plus dollar,
multi-year software development and support contracts.
-Lead the management of existing and new relationships with
corporate and nonprofit clients, ensuring their needs are met and
they are highly satisfied with Caktus' services.
-Provide supervision and mentorship for Caktus' sales and
marketing team of three. Champion an environment of accountability,
trust, motivation, professional growth, and productivity.
-Understand and help refine Caktus' unique value proposition
and communicate it flawlessly in direct conversations with
prospective clients.
-Build relationships with leaders across industries to
facilitate prospect introductions and help new organizations use
Caktus' Python and Django expertise. Maintain and grow a healthy
pipeline of strategic business prospects.
-Review and approve the strategy and execution for all
advertising, case studies, content campaigns, and other website
-Jointly with the CEO, lead Caktus' contract-related processes,
including contract negotiation, deliverable definition, payment
structures, and monthly invoicing.
-Work collaboratively across the organization to solicit input
and coordinate the participation of the project management and
development teams during project proposal preparation.
-Work closely with HR and sales/marketing team members to
identify and fill new roles in the business development department,
as needed.
-Serve as a key member of the executive team, contributing to
overall organizational strategies and representing the priorities
of the business development department. Participate in promoting an
organizational culture that values long-term strategic thinking,
creativity/innovation, and high performance.
-Lead monthly all-staff presentations on Caktus' business
development activities, current pipeline, goals, and progress.
-Represent Caktus externally at conferences, meetings, and
speaking engagements as required.


-At least 8 years of business development experience including
success forming strategic partnerships that have resulted in
six-figure plus, multi-year engagements.
-In-depth understanding of the intricacies of custom web

senior leaders and company founders.
-Bachelor's degree required; MBA or other advanced degree is a

Caktus uses a standardized and equitable method to calculate
salaries. Salaries are predetermined by a formula, which
incorporates market rates, cost of living, candidate experience,
and years with the company. They are standardized team-wide and are
non-negotiable, in order to ensure the equitable nature of the
salary. The formula applies to all team members at Caktus. For this
position, your starting base salary would be $98,040 plus incentive
